Sure Foundation recognizes the immense importance of catechetical instruction. During some of the most formative years of a child’s life, they will have the opportunity to learn, in detail, the truths of the Christian faith. These truths come completely from the Bible, which is why the Bible will be the main book for this instruction. A supplement to that will be Luther’s Small Catechism.

If you would like your child to participate in this class, please send an email to pastor@surechurch.com indicating this desire.

  2. Each student will be equipped to face the challenges high school and college with the confidence of the Word.

  3. Each student will have the opportunity to spend time in the Word with their pastor and their parents.

age of students

Students that are in 7th and 8th grade will attend catechism classes.

Time and frequency

Classes will take place on an evening during the week, meeting once per week. Each class period will be 1.5 hours.

Communion

Following the completion of Catechism at Sure Foundation, the confirmed will be invited to participate in the Lord’s Supper (Communion). As the confirmed partake of the Lord’s Supper, they receive the body and blood of Christ in, with, and under the bread and the wine. They also make a confession of faith - that they believe the same things as the congregation believes.

Examination

Students will go through an examination in front of family and friends in their homes prior to the confirmation service. The purpose of examination is: 1) to review basic doctrines 2) to make public proclamation of beliefs 3) to prove that each student has been thoroughly instructed.

Confirmation service

There will be a confirmation service on a selected Sunday in the Spring. At this service confirmands will be presented to the congregation as instructed and prepared for membership. They will make a public proclamation of their faith and commitment to the truth.

Grades

The students will receive “grades” as they do in school. However, these grades are not a measure of faith, but of knowledge. The pastor and the parents will work together to assess the preparedness of each confirmand as the year goes along.

Memory work

Each lesson will include memory work. We will use the New International Version 2011 version of the Bible for memory work.
